Career

Nordic combination

Piho started skiing at the age of seven and made his international debut as a combined competitor in the Nordic Combined B World Cup in March 2007 in Kuusamo . Already in his first two competitions he reached the points. At the beginning of the 2007/08 season he could no longer build on this success. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2008 in Zakopane , Piho landed on the 38th place in the individual on the normal hill. With the team, he reached rank 12 before finishing 27th in the sprint. In March 2008 in Eisenerz he again made it into the points of the B World Cup.

At the beginning of the 2008/09 season, Piho made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup on November 23, 2008 . In Kuusamo , he clearly missed the points in both World Cup competitions. He then went back to the B squad in December and started again in the B World Cup, which has since been renamed the Continental Cup. In his first Continental in Park City , he already achieved a result among the top ten in ninth place. However, Piho was not able to keep this performance constant in the following weeks and months.

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2009 in Štrbské Pleso , he reached 29th place over 5 km and 24th place over 10 km in the individual competitions. With the team he did not get past 11th place. After an unsuccessful World Cup start in Klingenthal , Piho traveled as a team member to the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec . In the mass start, the first combination competition of the world championship, he landed in 49th place. In the individual on the normal hill, Piho reached the 44th place and on the large hill the 40th place.

At the beginning of the 2009/10 World Cup season , Piho was part of the A-squad and started in the World Cup. However, he remained without points until Oberhof in January. Then he came back to the Continental Cup in Otepää, but could not assert himself there either. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2010 in Hinterzarten , Piho was able to improve slightly compared to previous years. In the individual over 5 km he only finished 44th, but was able to reach over 10 in 19th place. With the team he reached seventh place.

In the following months, Piho rarely managed to land in the points in the Continental Cup. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2011 in Otepää he reached 12th place in the individual over 10 km. Over 5 km it was only enough for him to rank 22. Immediately afterwards he traveled with the senior national team to the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo . With 34th place in the individual on the normal hill and 33rd place on the large hill, he had no chance of a good placement there either. With the Estonian team he finished 12th. After Piho also failed to score points in the last World Cups of the season in Lahti , he ended the season without a placement in the overall World Cup.

At the 2011 Estonian Combined Championships, Piho won the gold medal in the individual on the normal hill and in the team sprint.

At the Summer Grand Prix 2011 in Liberec he was able to win points in an A series competition for the first time. At the beginning of the 2011/12 season he achieved a top 20 place in the World Cup for the first time with rank 18 in the team sprint from Seefeld in Tyrol . In the individual World Cup in Chaux-Neuve in January 2012, he just missed his first individual World Cup points as 31st. In February Piho managed to reach the second round for the first time. With the 29th place he also achieved his first World Cup points. He also won World Cup points in Lahti. He ended the season in 58th place in the overall World Cup ranking.

In the Summer Grand Prix 2012 he achieved his best individual placement in the highest competition class with 18th place in Oberstdorf. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season , Piho reached 16th place in the Penalty Race in Lillehammer . He and the team also came in 16th in Kuusamo. In January 2013 he was able to reach the points again in Seefeld in Tirol. He also succeeded in this at the following World Cups in Klingenthal and Sotschi .

At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in the Italian Val di Fiemme Piho reached in the individual competitions on the normal hill rank 28 and on the large hill team event ranked 27th in the normal hill he landed with the team in 11th place. In the team sprint from the large hill, he reached 10th place together with Han-Hendrik Piho .

Ski jumping

Piho competed in his only and international competition as a special jumper on March 12, 2011 in Lahti in the team competition in the Ski Jumping World Cup . With the team he reached ninth place. Three years earlier on August 23, 2008, Piho had already been nominated by the association for a jumping in the FIS Cup , but did not start.

Piho also competed with the team at the Estonian Ski Jumping Championships between 2009 and 2013 and won various medals in winter and summer, but not a title.
