Yoshito Watabe ( Japanese 渡 部 善 斗 , Watabe Yoshito ; born October 4, 1991 in Hakuba ) is a Japanese Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Watabe made his international debut in 2008 in the Nordic Combined World Cup B. From January 2009 he started in the Continental Cup . At the Junior World Championships in Zakopane in 2008 he had previously achieved 13th place with the team and 26th place in the sprint. On January 10th, 2009 he made his debut in the World Cup in Val di Fiemme . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2010 in Hinterzarten , Watabe just missed the medal ranks in fourth place in the team competition. In the individual competition over 5 km he reached eleventh place, over 10 km the fourteenth. On January 23, 2010 Watabe won World Cup points for the first time in his career at Gundersen in Schonach . At the 2013 World Championships , he finished fourth in the team competition with Japan. At the 2015 World Championships , he reached sixth and seventh place in the individual competitions. His best World Cup season so far was 2012/13 , which he finished in 15th place. That winter he also achieved his only individual podium finish to date when he finished third in Oslo. With his brother he won the bronze medal in the team sprint at the 2017 World Championships in Lahti .

He is the younger brother of the Nordic combiner Akito Watabe .
