Carl-Christian "Calle" Halfvarsson (born March 17, 1989 in Sågmyra ) is a Swedish cross-country skier .

Career

Halfvarsson first appeared in 2008 at the Junior World Championships in Males, Italy . There he won gold in the sprint competition. He made his World Cup debut at the 2009 Cross-Country World Cup Final , which he finished with 54th place. In the 2009/210 season he took part in the Scandinavian Cup , where he finished 69th overall.

At the beginning of the 2010/2011 season , he took part in the cross-country skiing world cup, in which he predominantly placed in the midfield. This was followed by participation in races of the Scandinavian Cup, which he finished in eighth place in the season. His best result was a second place in Keuruu . Due to the good results he was allowed to participate in the World Cup again at the end of the season, in which the 12th place in the sprint was his best placement. At the Swedish cross-country skiing championships in 2011 in Sundsvall , he took silver in the sprint behind Jesper Modin .

After a strong start in the 2011/12 season with fourth place over 15 km, Halfvarsson mostly came out of the top ten. He finished the season with 47th place in the overall World Cup. In the following season he started in the Tour de Ski , which he finished with 14th place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , he won as the final runner, silver with the relay. In the individual, he was able to take sixth place over 15 km freestyle and twice seventh place in the skiathlon and sprint competition. In the overall World Cup he reached 15th place. In the 2013/14 season , he finished the Tour de Ski with eighth place. He was able to win the sprint competition in Oberhof . At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he only took part in the sprint competition, in which he finished 17th. He finished the season in fifth place in the overall World Cup.

In the 2014/15 season Halfvarsson reached sixth place at the Nordic Opening in Lillehammer . He finished the Tour de Ski 2015 in third place. In 14 participations in World Cup races, he came 12 times in the points and seven times in the top ten. In January 2015 he became the Swedish champion in the 15 km freestyle. Two months later he was also the Swedish champion over 50 km. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun , he won silver with the relay. His best placement in an individual race at this World Cup was sixth in the skiathlon. He finished the season in third place in the overall World Cup and fourth in the distance ranking. In the following season he took part in five world cup races. His best result was tenth place in the sprint in Planica . At the first World Cup of the 2016/17 season in Ruka , he finished second in the sprint. This was followed by fifth place in the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer. He won the sprint stage and the classic 10 km stage. In January 2017 he took second place with the relay in Ulricehamn and third place in the 30 km mass start race in Falun. At the season highlight of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , he won the bronze medal with the relay. He also took 20th place in the skiathlon, tenth place over 15 km classic and ninth place in the sprint. He finished the season in 22nd place in the Distance World Cup, in 21st place in the overall World Cup and in 14th place in the Sprint World Cup. At the beginning of the 2017/18 season he finished tenth in the Ruka Triple . He was third in the sprint stage. This was followed by third place over 15 km classic in Planica and third place in the sprint in Seefeld in Tirol . His best placings at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang were ninth place over 15 km freestyle and fourth place together with Marcus Hellner in the team sprint. At the World Cup finals in Falun, which he finished in seventh place, he took second place in the 15 km mass start race and reached 13th place in the overall World Cup and tenth place in the Sprint World Cup. At the end of March 2018, he became the Swedish sprint champion in Skellefteå .

After third place over 15 km classic in Ruka at the beginning of the 2018/19 season, Halfvarsson took fourth place in the Lillehammer Triple and 16th place in the Tour de Ski 2018/19 . At the Swedish Championships 2019 in Sundsvall , he won the sprint and over 15 km classic. His best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tirol were sixth place in the 50 km mass start race and fourth place together with Oskar Svensson in the team sprint. He finished the season in 21st place in the Distance World Cup and in 15th place in the overall and sprint World Cup. In the 2019/20 season he achieved ninth place in the Ruka Triple and 15th place in the Tour de Ski 2019/20 and thus reached 19th place in the overall World Cup.
