Bigna Windmüller (born February 27, 1991 in Meride ) is a former Swiss ski jumper .

Career

Windmüller, who initially started for SC Wildhaus and later for SSC Toggenburg and started ski jumping in 2002, made her international debut in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup on January 18, 2006 in Toblach . the then highest class in women's ski jumping. Already in the first competition she reached a place in the points as 25th. At the Junior World Championships in Kranj in 2006 , she jumped 18th on the normal hill.

At the first Continental Cup of the 2006/07 season in Klingenthal , Windmüller jumped ninth in the top ten for the first time. On January 16, 2007 she was third in Toblach for the first time on a Continental Cup podium. Since it was her last World Cup of the season, she finished 23rd in the overall ranking. At the Swiss Ski Jumping Championships in Kandersteg in 2007 , she secured the women's silver medal behind Salome Fuchs . In the 2007/08 season Windmüller was successful with consistently good finishes in the points. At the Junior World Championships in Zakopane in 2008 , she jumped 13th on the normal hill. Five days earlier, she had celebrated her second podium with another third place in Schönwald in the Black Forest . Windmüller finished the season in 20th place overall.

With the 2008/09 season , Windmüller had its most successful season in this series. After consistently only good points, she finished the season in 13th place overall. At the Junior World Championships in 2009 in Štrbské Pleso , she jumped to 18th place on the normal hill. A few days later she was part of the Swiss squad at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2009 , where women's ski jumping was on the program for the first time. After a mixed jump, Windmüller took 14th place.

At the Summer Continental Cup in Bischofsgrün , Windmüller achieved her best result in second place and celebrated another podium finish. It was her last place on the podium in the Continental Cup. At the Junior World Championships 2010 in Hinterzarten , she barely missed a first medal and took fourth place on the normal hill.

At the Swiss Ski Jumping Championships 2010 in Einsiedeln , Windmüller was the only participant and thus secured her second Swiss championship title after 2009. In the summer of 2011, Windmüller took part in the Ski Jumping Grand Prix 2011 and achieved multiple points. In the end, she achieved 39th place overall with four points.

In the first World Cup season 2011/12 , she took a career break. Consequently, she made her debut in the World Cup only at the beginning of the second season 2012/13 . Already in the first individual World Cup in Lillehammer she reached the points. Windmüller also regularly landed in the points in the other competitions. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , she jumped to 23rd place. Her first World Cup season, she finished a little later in 33rd place in the overall World Cup ranking.

Their most successful season was also their last season. In the 2013/14 season , Windmüller secured her first and only World Cup podium with third place in Zaō, Japan . In connection with this, she qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . At the Olympic premiere of women's ski jumping, she was the only Swiss participant in 18th place.

At the 2013 Swiss Ski Jumping Championships in Chaux-Neuve , France , Windmüller won her third and last Swiss championship title ahead of her sister Sabrina Windmüller . In addition, together with Luca Egloff , Pascal Egloff and Simon Ammann , she secured silver as a mixed relay in the team competition.

After Windmüller sustained a cruciate ligament injury after the Winter Games, she announced the end of her career on March 18, 2014.
