Taylor Fletcher (born May 11, 1990 in Steamboat Springs ) is an American ski jumper and Nordic combined athlete .

Career

2005 to 2010

On December 10, 2005 Fletcher made his debut in the Nordic Combined B World Cup. After a rather poor performance, he started annually in the Junior World Championship from 2007, but did not reach any top placements there either. On January 31, 2009 he made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup in Chaux-Neuve . On January 10th, 2010 he was able to win two World Cup points for the first time in Val di Fiemme with 29th place. However, since he could not win any points and won no medals at the Nordic Junior World Championship 2009 in Štrbské Pleso , he was relegated to the Continental Cup of Nordic Combined . After two good placings in Park City , he was able to reach the podium for the first time in Lake Placid on December 19, 2009 and so came back to the World Cup in January 2010. After he narrowly missed the points in Oberhof , he managed to win points for the first time in the Gundersen individual over 10 km in Predazzo .

After falling below expectations again at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2010 in Hinterzarten in Nordic Combined, he competed in ski jumping and combined at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . In the team competition of the ski jumpers he reached 11th place together with Anders Johnson , Peter Frenette and Nicholas Alexander . In the combination he reached 45th place in the Gundersen competition on the normal hill and over 10 km.

After the Olympic Games, he clearly missed the points in both competitions in the Lahti World Cup . Therefore, he was relegated to the Continental Cup for the last two competitions of the 2009/10 season. He won Continental Cup points in both competitions in Kuusamo . In the summer of 2010 he started in the Summer Grand Prix and achieved the points in the first competition in Oberstdorf . After further middle placements and a 14th place in Oberwiesenthal , he ended the Grand Prix in 29th place overall.

Since 2010/11 season

The start of the 2010/11 season was unsuccessful for Fletcher. After not finishing in the points in Kuusamo and Lillehammer , he started again in Park City for a race in the Continental Cup and immediately finished third again. In the subsequent World Cups he again fell short of expectations. It wasn't until January 16, 2011 in Seefeld in Tirol that he managed to win points again with 29th place. After two podium finishes in the Continental Cup in Harrachov , he started at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Norway Oslo . He reached the 26th place in the Gundersen singles on the normal hill and 35th on the large hill. After two pointless World Cups after the World Cup, he finished the season in 55th place overall.

At the Summer Grand Prix in Oberwiesenthal, Fletcher again achieved a good place with 21st place. Unfortunately, he could not repeat this at the beginning of the 2011/12 World Cup season and again missed the points in Kuusamo. On the other hand, in the first competition in Lillehammer , he almost made it into the top twenty with 21st place. In December he went back to his homeland to contest the Continental Cup in Park City. After a second place in the first single, he was in the team sprint together with Nick Hendrickson as Team USA I third. The following individual competition Fletcher was able to win before he finished the Park City Continental Cup with a second and a seventh place.

At the Team World Cup on January 7, 2012 in Oberstdorf, Fletcher reached fifth place together with Johnny Spillane , Bryan Fletcher and Bill Demong . It was the best team result for Fletcher in the World Cup. After a week later he was only able to score in one of three competitions in Chaux-Neuve, France , two weeks later he went back to the Continental Cup, where he was able to clearly win the second competition in Klingenthal after a third place in the first individual. On February 14, 2012 he achieved his best individual result in the World Cup to date with 14th place at the World Cup in Val di Fiemme. After gaining further points in Klingenthal and Liberec , he finished the season in 36th place in the overall World Cup ranking.

At the Summer Grand Prix 2012, Fletcher only competed in Sochi and, after being disqualified in the first competition, surprisingly finished tenth in the second. After the 2012/13 World Cup season began with a point win in Lillehammer and he was even disqualified in the first World Cup by Kuusamo, Fletcher surprisingly reached tenth place in Ramsau , Austria . He repeated this success in January in Chaux-Neuve. After he narrowly missed the podium on January 19, 2013 in Seefeld and ended up fifth, the next day he made it into the top three at a World Cup for the first time with third place in the same place.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 , Fletcher reached 25th place in the individual on the normal hill and won the bronze medal in team competition together with Bryan Fletcher, Todd Lodwick and Bill Demong.
