Roald Edgar Aas (born March 25, 1928 in Oslo ; † February 18, 2012 ) was a Norwegian speed skater and cyclist .

Aas specialized in the 1500 m as a speed skater. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1952 in his native Oslo, he finished bronze over this distance in 2: 21.6 minutes. Four years later in Cortina d'Ampezzo he could not place in the medal ranks. Over 1500 m he finished 10th in 2: 12.9 min and 6th over 5000 m in 8: 01.6 min. However, in the same year in Hamar, he was the only time in his career Norwegian national champion in speed skating. In the further course of the year he also won the Norwegian national championships in cycling on the road and on the track. For this success in several sports within one year, he was awarded the Egebergs Ærespris in 1956 .

Aas was also able to win several medals at international all-around championships. At the speed skating all- around world championship in Helsinki in 1958 , he succeeded in winning the only medal in his career at world championships. He took bronze. He also won the bronze medal both times at the European speed skating all- around championships in Oslo in 1957 and 1960 .

Aas celebrated his greatest success at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley . Together with Yevgeny Grischin at the same time , he became Olympic champion over 1,500 m in 2: 10.4 minutes. He also took 25th place over 5,000 m and 23rd place over 10,000 m. Aas set a total of nine track records.

In addition to speed skating, Aas was also active as a cyclist both on the road and on the track . In 1956 he became Norwegian champion in the single pursuit and individual time trial .

After finishing his sports career, he worked as a warehouse manager for a toothbrush manufacturer. He died in February 2012.
