Martin Stokken (born January 16, 1923 in Snillfjord , † March 25, 1984 in Trondheim ) was a Norwegian cross-country skier and athlete .

Career

Stokken, who started for Selsbakk IF, won his first medal as a cross-country skier at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lake Placid in 1950 with the bronze medal with the relay. He also achieved 17th place over 18 km and 50 km respectively. Two years later he won the silver medal with the relay at the Winter Olympics in Oslo . He finished sixth in the 18 km race. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1954 in Falun he came in 13th place over 15 km, 11th place over 30 km and fourth place over 50 km and with the relay. In March 1954 he won the Holmenkollen Ski Festival over 50 km and received the Holmenkollen Medal for it in the same year . At the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo , he ran on 15th place over 30 km, sixth place over 15 km and fourth place with the relay. The following year he was third over 50 km at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in March 1958 in Lahti , he achieved 21st place over 30 km and 50 km and fourth place with the relay. In 1960 he won the Birkebeinerrennet . At Norwegian championships he won four times over 30 km (1951, 1954, 1955, 1957) and once over 50 km (1955).

As a track and field athlete , Stokken started in August 1946 at the European Athletics Championships in Oslo . There he was eighth over 10,000 meters. When he first participated in the Olympics in London in August 1948 , he finished tenth in the 5,000-meter run and fourth in the 10,000-meter run. In the following year he was the first Norwegian to run under 30 minutes in the 10,000 meter run and was athlete of the year in Norway and received the Egebergs Ærespris . At the European Athletics Championships in Brussels in 1950 , he achieved sixth place over 10,000 meters and fourth place in the 3,000-meter obstacle course . In the same year he received the Aftenposten gold medal . At the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki , he finished tenth in the 10,000 meter run. Stokken was six times Norwegian champion over 10,000 meters (1947-1952). He has also won the Norwegian championships four times over 5,000 meters, three times in the 3,000-meter obstacle course and six times in cross-country running .
