Ole Reistad

Ole Imerslun Reistad (born June 26, 1898 in Oslo ; † December 22, 1949 there ) was a Norwegian athlete and officer in the Norwegian Air Force , most recently in the rank of colonel .

At the Olympic Summer Games in Antwerp in 1920 he reached 14th place in the pentathlon , and in 1922 he was Norwegian champion. In the same year he was awarded the Egebergs Ærespris for skiing and athletics. At the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , he carried the Norwegian flag at the opening ceremony and, at that time in the rank of first lieutenant , led the Norwegian winning team in the demonstration competition military patrol .

When the German forces on 9 April 1940 Norway attacked , Reistad served as wing commander the defense operations on the airfield Bardufoss , but had to finally retire, as with the withdrawal of British units on June 8, the open struggle hopeless was. Reistad first went to Finland, where his attempt to set up a Norwegian air base failed due to the political will of Finland. In a roundabout way, he came to Canada, where he headed the Little Norway training camp near Toronto from early 1941 . He was promoted to major on April 4th. After the camp was closed in 1944, Reistad was ordered back and was the last commander in Bardufoss. He fell ill with a brain tumor, survived the delicate operation, but died a little later.

Already seriously ill, he was awarded the Order of Saint Olav for his services .
