Fritz Müller (party official)

Fritz Müller (born December 3, 1920 in Forst (Lausitz) ; † April 15, 2001 ) was an SED functionary who headed the Cadre Department of the SED Central Committee from 1960 to 1989 .

Life

After attending secondary school from 1937 to 1939, the son of a cigarette maker completed an apprenticeship as a businessman and joined the NSDAP on September 1, 1939 with membership number 7,142,801 in the forest group. During the Second World War he served as a soldier in the Wehrmacht and was finally promoted to sergeant . After the end of the war he was in Soviet captivity between May 1945 and December 1947 and during this time he joined an anti-Nazi group in the Nizhny Tagil camp and was also employed in mining .

After his return to Germany at the end of December 1947, he was first a clerk in February 1948, in October 1948 head of the planning department at the council of the forest district and then in 1950 in the same function at the council of the Frankfurt (Oder) district . After a short time, he became an instructor for planning in the economic policy department of the SED state leadership in Brandenburg in 1951 and then from August 1952 to February 1953 head of the economic policy department of the SED district leadership in Cottbus . After studying at the state party school in Ballenstedt , he was deputy headmaster there from 1954 to 1955 and professor of economic policy.

In June 1955 he went to East Berlin , where he succeeded Helmut Sandig as head of the planning and finance department of the Central Committee of the SED . In May 1960 he was appointed head of the Central Committee's Cadre Department. He was also responsible for the training of functionaries of the SED and the mass organizations. During this time he was also responsible for the SED's personnel policy and thus the entire nomenclature system of all relevant organizations and institutions in the GDR. In this capacity he was first a candidate in 1963 and then from 1967 to 1989 a member of the Central Committee of the SED. From April 1979 to November 1989 he was also the successor of Kurt Tiedke 1st Secretary of the Central Management of the SED party organization in the Central Committee apparatus.

On November 28, 1989, he was dismissed from his position as head of the Central Committee and expelled from the PDS on February 10, 1990 .

During the GDR period, he received several awards for his services to the SED and received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze, silver and gold in 1959, 1964 and 1970, as well as the honor bar for the Patriotic Order of Merit in 1980. In addition, he was awarded the banner of work in 1969 and 1981 . In 1984 and 1985 he was awarded the Karl Marx Order .
