List of the Central Committee departments and their department heads

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of the Central Committee departments and their department heads contains an overview of the approximately 40 departments of the Central Committee of the SED .

The departments were assigned to the ten or so Central Committee secretaries . Each department was headed by a department head and his deputy. Each department was divided into sectors with sector managers, (political) employees and instructors. In 1970 the departments still had around 1,000 employees, by 1987 it was 2,000.

The department heads and sector heads did not officially have authority to issue directives to the state ministries (this lay with the Central Committee secretaries), but they usually made the decisions.
