Berthold craftsman
Berthold Handwerker (born June 13, 1920 in Ihlauschen, Kr. Ragnit , East Prussia ; † May 15, 2002 ) was a functionary of the SED and ambassador of the GDR .
Life
Craftsmen, son of a worker who graduated after attending the elementary school and the high school , a vocational training for electricians and served during World War II as a sergeant in the army .
After the war ended, he worked as an electrician between 1945 and 1948 and joined the SED as a member in 1946. In 1948 he was first head of department, then second secretary and finally in 1951 first secretary of the SED district leadership in the Spremberg district . After a subsequent course at the Karl Marx party college , he was secretary for economics in the SED district leadership in the Potsdam district between 1952 and 1954 .
He then moved to the Central Committee of the SED, where he was initially an instructor and sector manager and then from 1955 to 1959, as the successor to Paul Kraszon, head of the Basic Industry Department of the Central Committee of the SED , which was temporarily renamed the Coal, Mining, Energy and Chemistry Department. After handing over the position of department head to Günther Wyschofsky in 1959 , he again worked as a sector manager until 1965.
In 1965 he joined the Foreign Service of the GDR and was until 1972 as Counselor Head of the Economic Policy of the Embassy in Romania . Subsequently, in April 1972, Berthold Handwerker was accredited as the successor to Willy Hüttenrauch , who was retiring , as the GDR's ambassador to the Mongolian People's Republic and held this post until 1976.
After his return he was from 1977 to 1986 secretary of the committee for Vietnam in the Solidarity Committee of the GDR , a social organization that coordinated the various development aid activities in the GDR. After finishing his work on the Solidarity Committee, he retired in 1986.
