Willy Hüttenrauch
Willy Hüttenrauch (born March 10, 1909 in Weimar ; † February 23, 1996 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( SED ) and diplomat . For many years he was State Secretary in the Ministry for Foreign Trade and Internal German Trade of the GDR and Ambassador to the Mongolian People's Republic .
Life
Hüttenrauch, the son of a railroad worker, received training as a commercial clerk. In 1925 he joined the Socialist Workers' Youth and in 1927 became a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). After completing his apprenticeship, he worked in industry, later as a union employee and from 1929 as a department head in a printing company.
After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, he was arrested for “political activity” and temporarily held in protective custody. After his release he was active in illegal resistance, especially in the social democratic resistance group Nehrling-Eberling in Weimar. From 1936 to 1940 he worked in various companies in Weimar. During the Second World War he was called up for military service in the Wehrmacht in 1940 .
After the end of the war, the former social democrat became a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and worked from August to October 1945 as a consultant in the Thuringian State Office for Social Affairs. He was then commissioned by the state administration of Thuringia to denazify the administration of the Agriculture and Forestry Office. From 1946 Hüttenrauch belonged to the SED. In January 1947, after the establishment of a state office for trade and supply, he became head of the main administration as a ministerial advisor. In 1947, Hüttenrauch was also appointed to the German Economic Commission .
From October 9, 1947 to November 21, 1950, he served as Minister of Economics for the Thuringian state government under Werner Eggerath . In the course of a government reshuffle, his office was given to Herbert Strampfer , who became Minister for Industry and Construction. After attending the SED party college in Kleinmachnow, he worked in the GDR's foreign trade from 1951. He was initially deputy head of department and from June 1, 1952 State Secretary in the Ministry for Foreign Trade and Internal German Trade for the import work area. In November 1962 Horst Sölle took over the function of State Secretary and Hüttenrauch was then Deputy Minister and Deputy Head of the GDR at the Council for Mutual Economic Aid (RGW) under Ministers Julius Balkow and Horst Sölle until 1968 . He then switched to the diplomatic service and was the GDR's ambassador to the Mongolian People's Republic from October 1968 to March 1972. In 1972 he retired.
Willy Hüttenrauch has been awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit several times : 1958 (in silver), 1969 (in gold) and 1978 (honor bar). In 1974 he received the Star of Friendship of Nations in silver.
