Karl Hengst (party official)

Karl Stallion (* 4. May 1928 in Meerane , Kreis Glauchau , † 6. September 2014 in Berlin ) was a German functionary of the SED in the GDR .

Life

After attending elementary and secondary school, the son of a laborer worked as a farm worker and agricultural assistant before studying at the agricultural college in Thurm from 1946 to 1947 and then from 1947 to 1949 as a breeding warden in Willerstedt . He then completed further studies at the Agricultural Technical Schools in Elbisbach and Zwickau in 1951 as a state-certified farmer and then joined the SED.

He was then cultural director between 1951 and 1952 and also worked as an agronomist in the machine loan station (MAS) Kamenz , before he was then head of a department in the State Planning Commission (SPK) from 1952 to 1955 .

After studying at the Central School of the SED Central School in Schwerin , he became an instructor in the planning and finance department of the SED Central Committee in 1956 and also completed a distance learning course at the Berlin School of Economics (HfÖ), which he graduated in 1958 with a degree in economics . In 1960 he was then sector manager and in 1963 deputy head of the planning and finance department of the SED Central Committee. In this position he was in Czechoslovakia in July 1966 to find out about the differences between the Czech planning and economic system and the so-called New Economic System of Planning and Management (NÖS) and to prepare a report for the Central Committee of the SED . He also worked closely with the Central Committee Secretary Günter Mittag , who was responsible for the economy .

In 1966, Hengst finally succeeded Siegfried Böhm , who in turn became Minister of Finance, Head of the Planning and Finances Department of the Central Committee of the SED and held this position until 1969. Most recently, he was a research assistant at the State Planning Commission and in 1988 received the Patriotic Order of Merit (VVO ) in gold.
