Heinz Mirtschin (born June 8, 1930 in Niederoderwitz ) is a German former party functionary of the SED in the GDR .

Life

Mirtschin learned the trade of a weaver and later worked as an administrative assistant. In 1949 he became a member of the SED and a full-time functionary. He was an employee of the governing bodies department of the SED district leadership in Dresden , then 2nd or from 1965 to 1969 1st secretary of the SED district leadership in Löbau . In January 1972 he became head of the party organs sector and in August 1983 deputy head of the party organs department of the SED Central Committee. From 1981 to 1986 he was a member of the Central Revision Commission of the SED.

Mirtschin was the successor of Horst Dohlus from 1986 until the dissolution of the SED in 1989, head of the party organs department of the SED Central Committee and thus responsible for the guidance of the leading party organs at the regional level and the work with the mass organizations . From April 1986 to December 1989 he was a member of the Central Committee of the SED .

In November 1989, he became secretary of an editorial committee that developed an action program called Steps to Renewal . In addition to the chairman Siegfried Lorenz, this editorial committee included the members Hans Modrow , Eberhard Heinrich , Wolfgang Herger , Helmut Koziolek , Werner Scheler , Gerd Schulz , Gerhard Schürer , Hans-Jürgen Trümper , Moritz Mebel , Wolfgang Junker , Hans-Joachim Hoffmann , Alexander Schalck- Golodkowski , Gerhard Beil , Horst Brünner , Wolfgang Rauchfuß , Werner Frohn , Oskar Fischer , Helga Labs , Hans-Joachim Willerding , Arnold Zimmermann and Helmut Semmelmann .

In addition, he became a member of the so-called Operative Leadership Group Fall of the Wall of the GDR National Defense Council under the chairmanship of Colonel General Fritz Streletz in November 1989 by order 12-89 . This group, which also included Lieutenant General Gerhard Neiber , Colonel General Karl-Heinz Wagner , Kurt Nier , Colonel General Klaus-Dieter Baumgarten and Harry Möbis , “had to collect and analyze information about the overall situation on the territory of the GDR, and continuously analyze the situation of the enemy to assess and to prepare conclusions and / or proposals for general government management decisions ”.

At the district delegates' conference of the SED-PDS at the Humboldt University in Berlin in January 1990, the urgency of breaking radically with the Stalinist command structures of the old SED and consistently democratizing the party was underlined. The conference also called for those primarily responsible for the policies of the old party leadership to be expelled from the SED-PDS immediately, even if they are not guilty under criminal law. In addition to Heinz Mirtschin, these included Horst Dohlus, Kurt Hager , Joachim Herrmann , Erich Mückenberger , and Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler . The PDS Arbitration Commission did not comply with such a requirement in its letter of February 21, 1990.

From February 7, 1990 to October 1991, Heinz Mirtschin worked as a cash administrator at Deutsche Post / Bundespost until the structural changes. His certificate of departure dated September 12, 1991 from the Post Office in Berlin 8 confirms that he is an expert.
