Karl-Heinz Wagner (police officer)

Karl-Heinz Wagner (born November 7, 1928 - June 5, 2011 ) was a German police officer. From 1977 to 1989 he was Deputy Minister of the Interior of the GDR .

Life

Wagner became a member of the SED and the German People's Police in 1948 . In 1977 he was appointed major general. From 1977 to December 1989 he was Deputy Minister of the Interior and Chief of Staff (successor to Lieutenant General Rudolf Riss ). He was a member of the SED district leadership in the MdI. In 1980 he was promoted to lieutenant general and in 1987 to colonel general .

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, he was a member of the "Operational Leadership Group " formed on November 10, 1989 by order of the Chairman of the National Defense Council, Egon Krenz . On December 29, 1989 he was retired from active service by the GDR's Minister for Internal Affairs, Lothar Ahrendt . Lieutenant General Egon Grüning was appointed his successor . On January 24, 1990, he and the former Interior Minister Friedrich Dickel were told by the members of the Independent Committee of Inquiry in East Berlin about the events of 7/8. Interviewed in Berlin in October 1989. However, the hearing did not produce any new information worth mentioning.

After German reunification he was a member of ISOR .

His urn was buried in the Waldfriedhof Berlin-Grünau .
