Karl-Heinz Schäfer (politician, 1928)

Karl-Heinz Schäfer (born October 6, 1928 in Herne ) is a former German politician ( SED ). He was a party functionary, state secretary and works director in the GDR .

Life

Schäfer, son of the worker Fritz Schäfer, attended high school. In 1946 he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB). From 1948 to 1951 he studied business administration at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . He then worked until 1953 as an operations assistant and deputy planning manager at VEB Fahlberg-List in Magdeburg . In 1953 he was hired as the chief advisor in the Ministry of Chemical Industry . After attending the party college "Karl Marx" from 1955 to 1958, with the completion of a degree in social science , he became an employee of the Central Committee of the SED .

From May 1960 to December 1961 he acted as sector manager, then as deputy head and from 1962 to 1965 as head of the basic industry department of the Central Committee of the SED (successor to Günther Wyschofsky ). At the same time he was a member of the Bureau for Industry and Construction at the Politburo. From December 1965 to June 1969 he was State Secretary and First Deputy Minister in the Ministry of the Chemical Industry. Then he was director of the VEB nitrogen works Piesteritz . In 1973 he was replaced in this position by Otto König and was later director of the VEB Chemische Fabrik Finowtal for a short time.
