Erich Wappler

Erich Wappler (born May 17, 1926 in Bernsbach , Aue district , † May 27, 1974 in Berlin ) was a German SED functionary. He was a candidate for the Central Committee of the SED and head of the Planning and Finance Department of the Central Committee of the SED.

Life

Wappler, the son of a factory plumber, completed an apprenticeship as a banker from 1942 to 1944 after attending commercial school . He then did military service in the Wehrmacht and was taken prisoner by the US in November 1944 . After his release from captivity in December 1945, he first worked as a new teacher in Carlsfeld in 1946/1947 , before working as a banker in Aue until 1949 .

In 1949 he became a member of the SED. After studying at the finance school in Radebeul from 1950 to 1953, he worked as the director of the branch of the German central bank in Aue, before studying again at the finance school in Radebeul in 1953. Subsequently Wappler First Secretary of the SED party organization of the German central bank in Berlin and after studying at the Party School "Karl Marx" from 1955 to 1958 head of a department of the German central bank.

In 1960 he moved to the planning and finance department in the SED Central Committee as a political employee and became deputy department head there in January 1967 after being employed as a working group leader and section head.

Most recently, Wappler succeeded Karl Hengst as head of the planning and finance department in the SED Central Committee in April 1969 . Wappler was also a candidate for the Central Committee of the SED from 1971 to 1974. After his death, his previous deputy Günter Ehrensperger became the new head of the planning and finance department.

In 1969 Wappler was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.
