Arno Hochmuth (* 27. February 1930 in Berlin , † 16th June 2012 ) was a German literary scholar and high SED - cultural functionary .

Life

Hochmuth comes from a working-class family. After graduating from high school in 1948, he completed a teaching degree in German and history at the East Berlin Pedagogical University by 1951 and was a lecturer at the Institute for Teacher Training from 1951 to 1957 . In 1952 Hochmuth became a member of the SED. 1958-1962 he was aspirant at the Institute of Social Sciences (IFG) at the SED Central Committee , in July 1962 he was with the theme "The rottenness of the imperialist system as a social basis of the apologetics of decadence in West Germany" doctorate . Until 1966 he worked as a lecturer at the chair for literature and art studies at the IfG. 1966 to 1972 he was head of the culture department of the Central Committee . In 1972, Hochmuth became a full professor at the Aesthetics and Art Studies section of the Humboldt University in Berlin . His habilitation ( dissertation B ) did not follow until 1987 with the topic of "Development stages of the theoretical approach to contemporary non-socialist literature in GDR literature" . Between 1979 and 1981 he was also editor-in-chief of the literary magazine Temperamente , from 1963 until its dissolution in 1990 he was also a member of the presidential council of the Kulturbund , and from 1977 to its district management chair in Berlin. PDS member since 1990 , Hochmuth took early retirement as a professor in September 1990.
