Günter Möckel

Günter Möckel (born November 4, 1933 in Zwickau ) was major general of the National People's Army (NVA) of the German Democratic Republic .

Life

After attending elementary school, the son of a carpenter worked as an unskilled worker and paper maker from 1948 to 1951, before completing a two-year course at the Altenberg technical school (Erzgebirge) . On January 2, 1953, he joined the Barracked People's Police as an officer student at the Döbeln officers' school and in 1955 the SED . Between 1955 and 1959 he was first platoon leader in tank regiment 14 " Karol Świerczewski " in Spremberg and then company commander in tank regiment 15 " Paul Hornick " in Cottbus . Then he was an officer at the Friedrich Engels Military Academy in Dresden and then from 1963 to 1965 battalion commander in Panzer Regiment 14. From 1965 he was first deputy commander and then from 1967 to 1972 commander of the 16 " Leo Jogiches " tank regiment in Grossenhain .

After studying for three years at the General Staff Academy of the USSR , which he graduated in 1975 with a diploma in military science, he was initially deputy commander for training in the 7th Panzer Division in Dresden. As the successor to Major General Walter Müller , he was finally appointed commander of the 7th Panzer Division on November 1, 1979. As such, he was appointed major general on October 7, 1983, the 34th anniversary of the founding of the GDR . After taking part in an organization course between 1985 and 1986, he was last as the successor to Major General Manfred Raupach from February 10, 1986 until his discharge on November 30, 1988 as head of the Karl-Marx-Stadt military district command . At the same time he was a member of the SED district leadership in Karl-Marx-Stadt.
