Lothar Wenzel

Lothar Wenzel (born January 30, 1924 in Ohlau ; † May 22, 1983 ) was a German diplomat . From 1972 to 1975 he was the GDR's first ambassador to Bangladesh .

Life

The administrative employee Wenzel did military service . Wenzel, a member of the SED , completed a course of study, which he graduated with a degree in economics. After his studies he became an employee in the GDR foreign trade apparatus and was, among other things, head of the protocol department in the Ministry for Foreign and Inner German Trade . From 1961 he was a member of the diplomatic service of the GDR. From 1962 to 1963 he was consul and head of the trade agency on Ceylon . From 1964 to 1966, Wenzel worked as an employee of the GDR embassy in Beijing and then headed the sector in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR . From 1968 to 1972 he was deputy head of the GDR trade agency and embassy counselor in India . From February 17, 1972 to 1975, Wenzel was the GDR's first ambassador to Bangladesh. During Erich Honecker's state visit to the Republic of the Philippines in December 1977, he was a special ambassador for the GDR in the Republic of the Philippines and accompanied the GDR's head of state.

Ambassador Wenzel died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 59.
