Wolfgang Bayerlacher

Wolfgang Bayerlacher (born August 14, 1930 in Jehserig ; † November 4, 2019 in Berlin ) was a German diplomat .

Life

After working as a miner , Bayerlacher studied foreign policy at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam-Babelsberg from 1955 to 1959 . He completed his studies with a degree in political science . From 1971 to 1974 he studied at the party college of the SED with a degree in social science .

From 1950 to 1955 Bayerlacher was a functionary in the district executive committee of IG Bergbau Cottbus. In 1959 he began his work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). From 1962 to 1964 he was consul at the Consulate General in Burma , and from 1965 to 1969 he headed the Consulate General in Indonesia as Consul General . From 1969 to 1971 he was Deputy Head of the 2nd Non-European Department ( Southeast Asia ) in the MfAA. From January 16, 1975 to 1977 he was ambassador to Dhaka ( Bangladesh ), then again deputy head of the 2nd non-European department (South and Southeast Asia). From 1979 to 1987 Bayerlacher was head of the East and Central Africa department at the MfAA and from March 28, 1987 to 1990, the GDR's ambassador to Ethiopia .

Bayerlacher was a member of the SED and the Society for the Protection of Civil Rights and Human Dignity .
