Rudi Georgi

Rudi Georgi (born December 25, 1927 in Bockau ; † March 18, 2020 in Zempin on Usedom ) was a German politician ( SED ). From 1965 to 1973 he was Minister for Processing Machinery and Vehicle Construction, then Minister for Machine and Processing Machinery in the GDR until 1989 .

biography

Georgi, the son of a worker, attended the elementary and commercial school in Aue and trained as an industrial clerk in the Aue cutlery factory.

He joined the SPD in 1945 and became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany in 1946 after the forced unification of the SPD and KPD . In 1946 he also joined the FDJ . From 1950 to 1962 he worked for the VEB cutlery and silverware works in Aue, initially as an operations assistant, from 1951 to 1955 as production manager and from 1955 as plant manager . From 1957 to 1961 he completed a correspondence course at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig and from 1963 to 1965 he was general director of the VVB Eisen-, Blech- und Metallwaren Karl-Marx-Stadt . In 1966 he received his doctorate as Dr. rer. oec. at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig with the thesis "Problems of the further development of the product group work in the VVB EBM to ensure a needs-based production in the entire branch of industry" .

With the formation of new industry ministries in December 1965, Georgi was appointed Minister for Processing Machinery and Vehicle Construction. Because of his illness, he was sworn in in March 1966. After the previous ministry was divided into two ministries in September 1973, he was appointed Minister for Machine Tool and Processing Machinery. After the resignation of the Stoph government in November 1989, he left office.

He was a candidate from 1967 to 1976 and a member of the Central Committee of the SED from 1976 to 1989 .
