Karl Hans Walther (born October 4, 1895 in Gotha ; † March 9, 1965 in East Berlin ) was a German medical officer and university professor.

Life

Walther studied medicine at the Kaiser-Wilhelms-Akademie for military medical education from 1914 to 1921 and took part in the First World War. He was a member of the Pépinière-Corps Saxonia (1914) and the Corps Normannia Berlin (1920).

Reichswehr and Wehrmacht

From 1920 to 1922 he was a member of the German Democratic Party (DDP).

From 1920 to 1928 he was a medical officer in the Reichswehr in Berlin, Halberstadt and Görlitz. In 1928 he became head of the Medical Examination Office in Berlin and the Hygienic Examination Office in Dresden. From 1933 to 1939 he was a specialist in hygiene in the Army Medical Inspectorate in the Reichswehr Ministry, and in 1936 he was on-site physician and chief physician in the Berlin hospital and lecturer in hygiene at the University of Leipzig . In 1939 he was appointed chief epidemiologist and army doctor of Army Group A and the Norwegian Army High Command. Appointed general physician in 1944 , he was taken prisoner by the Soviets in 1945 .

GDR

Released from captivity in 1949, he was involved in the health care system of the GDR and was head of department at the Institute for Health Care for three years. On September 15, 1952, he joined the armed forces . Since October 1st, 1952 Major General of the Barracked People's Police , he was chief of the medical administration in the Ministry of the Interior (until 1953) and of the Barracked People's Police (until 1955). In December 1952, as professor and major general of the KVP, he received the honorary title of " Honored Doctor of the People ". In 1954 he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). As one of four former generals in the Wehrmacht, he was accepted into the National People's Army in 1956 . Until his retirement on December 31, 1956, he was head of the military medical section at the University of Greifswald . He was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze and in 1963 the Hufeland Medal in gold. excellent.
