Helmut Wunderlich

Helmut Wunderlich (born December 3, 1919 in Draisdorf , † December 22, 1994 in Berlin ) was a German economic functionary and politician ( SED ). He was Minister for General Mechanical Engineering of the GDR and General Director of VEB Carl Zeiss Jena .

Life

The son of a worker completed an apprenticeship as a lathe operator after attending primary school from 1934 to 1935 and then worked for a year. From 1938 to 1940 he studied at the State Engineering School in Chemnitz , graduating as an engineer for mechanical engineering. He was drafted into the Wehrmacht for military service and was taken prisoner by the Soviets .

After his return to Germany in 1949 he was a clerk in the VVB machine tools until 1950 , attended the German Academy for Political Science and Law "Walter Ulbricht" in Forst Zinna in 1950 and joined the SED in 1951. Until 1953 he was director of VEB Nobas Nordhausen , which is active in heavy machinery construction .

After the division of the Ministry of Mechanical Engineering into three Ministries, Helmut Wunderlich was appointed Minister for General Mechanical Engineering on February 2, 1953, but was soon replaced and appointed as Deputy Minister for Mechanical Engineering. Then he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Mechanical Engineering. On April 15, 1955, the ministry was divided into two ministries and he was again appointed Minister for General Mechanical Engineering (successor to Heinrich Rau ). On May 20, 1955, the 6th session of the People's Chamber pronounced his trust as minister. When the industrial ministries were dissolved in February 1958, he initially lost his position as minister and until 1960 he performed the same tasks as department head for mechanical engineering and, from 1959, as deputy chairman of the State Planning Commission . From July 31, 1961 to November 1963, he served as deputy chairman of the National Economic Council .

In February 1964 he became director of VEB Elektrokohle Berlin-Lichtenberg, and in 1967 director of VEB Transformatorenwerk Berlin-Oberschöneweide . From 1967 to 1971 he was a member of the SED district leadership in Berlin. From 1966 he was a member of the executive committee of URANIA and an honorary board member of FC Vorwärts Berlin . He was also a member of the Presidium of the Chamber of Technology from 1970 .

On June 1, 1971, Minister Otfried Steger introduced him to the post of General Director of VEB Carl Zeiss Jena as the successor to Ernst Gallerach . From June 1971 to May 1976, Wunderlich was also a candidate for the Central Committee of the SED and from November 1971 to 1976 a member of the People's Chamber . From May 22, 1976 (9th party congress of the SED ) to April 16, 1981 (10th party congress) he was a member of the Central Revision Commission of the SED. In October 1975 he was replaced as General Director of VEB Carl Zeiss Jena by Wolfgang Biermann . He then worked as a research assistant and later as a group leader in the Central Institute for Socialist Economic Management at the Central Committee of the SED.

Wunderlich last lived in Berlin. He died at the age of 75 and was buried in the Grünau forest cemetery.
