Hans Pflüger (politician)

Hans Pflüger (born May 23, 1921 in Halle (Saale) ; † May 7, 1988 there ) was a German politician ( SED ). From 1957 to 1984 he was Lord Mayor of the city of Halle an der Saale.

Life

Pflüger was born into a working-class family, attended elementary school and worked as a delivery boy for two years before learning to be a machine fitter. In 1941 he was drafted into the Navy and became a British prisoner of war . After returning to Halle in 1946 he became a member of the SED. Pflüger worked as an engine fitter and works manager in the bodyworks in Halle and attended the Central School of Economics. From 1950 to 1954 he was operations director of VEB Melsa, Blechwarenfabrik Rothemark in Wittenberg , then from 1954 to 1957 Secretary for Economics of the SED district leadership in Halle-Stadt. From July 1957 to 1984 he was Lord Mayor of the city of Halle, chairman of the city council and a member of the Halle district assembly . 1961/1962 he attended the party college "Karl Marx" .

Pflüger was a member of the Presidium of the City and Municipal Assembly of the GDR and a member and secretary of the Presidium of the Halle District Group of the German-Arab Society of the GDR.
