Dagmar Szabados

Dagmar Szabados [ ˈsɒbɒdoʃ ] (born November 10, 1947 in Hohlstedt ) is a German politician ( SPD ). Since 1990 she has been the mayor and deputy head of the city of Halle (Saale) and from May 1, 2007 to November 30, 2012 mayor .

Life

Szabados graduated from high school in Sangerhausen in 1966 and studied chemistry at the Bergakademie Freiberg from 1966 to 1971 . After graduating as a qualified chemist, she worked at the fuel institute in Freiberg until 1975 . From 1976 to 1978 she was environmental officer of the Halle Energy Combine and then until 1990 research assistant at the district hygiene institute and the state environmental inspection in Halle.

In 1990 Szabados was elected head of department for the environment and municipal economy of the city of Halle and mayor as the representative of the mayor. In 1994 she was elected councilor of the city of Halle for youth, social affairs and health and was re-elected mayor. A re-election took place in 2001.

On November 26, 2006, Szabados prevailed as a candidate nominated by the SPD in the runoff election for the office of Lord Mayor with a turnout of only 27.5% with 54.57% of the votes cast against the CDU candidate Bernhard Bönisch , who on 45.43% of the vote came. For reasons of age, she did not run for the May 2012 election. Bernd Wiegand (independent) was elected her successor. He was able to prevail on July 15, 2012 in the runoff election against his rival Bönisch from the CDU. The handover took place on December 1, 2012.

In 2013 she was made an honorary patron of the Leopoldina .

Dagmar Szabados is married and has two grown children.
