Elsa Arnold
Elsa Arnold , née Sens (born October 9, 1903 in Hamburg ; † May 16, 1986 in East Berlin ) was a German resistance fighter against National Socialism in the Resistance .
Life
Elsa Arnold had been a member of the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ) since 1919 and belonged to the Monist Youth since 1924 . In 1925 she joined the KPD. In 1926 she went with her first husband, Dr. jur. Arthur Arnold, an employee of the Soviet trade agency, went to Paris . There she worked for the Red Trade Union International (RGI) from 1928 . She was expelled from France in 1930 and was then active in Berlin for the International Committee of Friends of the Soviet Union and the International Red Aid .
After Hitler came to power , she emigrated to Amsterdam in 1933 , and from 1936 to 1939 she worked illegally in Paris with her partner Karl Becker for the World Committee of Friends of the Soviet Union. In 1939 she was responsible for the dissolution of the committee.
From 1940 she took part in the resistance struggle as a member of the Resistance . She was arrested on June 18, 1941 and transferred to Berlin in September 1941 . In 1942 the People's Court sentenced her to 15 years in prison for “preparing for high treason”. She was liberated in 1945 in Waldheim prison .
After her liberation, she returned to Berlin, where she became head of the KPD in Berlin-Friedenau , and later secretary of the KPD / SED district leadership in Berlin-Spandau . From 1954 she was secretary of the SED's works party organization at the Wolfen film factory , later a department head in the district management of the SED Halle (Saale) and finally a sector manager at the German Central Bank .
