Hans Gericke (born July 27, 1912 in Magdeburg ; † February 15, 2014 in Berlin ) was a German architect and urban planner .

Life

Hans Gericke studied architecture at the Technical University of Hanover from 1931 to 1937 . He then spent three years in Italy to study. In 1933 he joined the NSDAP . During the Second World War he worked on Sylt , in Brussels and Italy in his profession.

Gericke was a member of the NDPD in the GDR . In 1951 he became the personal advisor to the Minister for Development, Lothar Bolz . He then became city councilor for construction in East Berlin and campaigned for the reconstruction of the Forum Fridericianum . He was also involved in the redesign of the NDPD house (Berlin, Mohrenstrasse 20/21).

From 1953 to 1958 Gericke was the deputy director of the Institute for Theory and History of Architecture at the German Building Academy , from 1959 to 1964 chief architect of East Berlin. He then returned to the GDR Building Academy as deputy director of the Institute for Urban Development and Architecture. He was also Vice President of the Association of German Architects in the GDR (BdA) from 1952 to 1986 . He has received several awards, including a. 1961 with the Goethe Prize of the city of Berlin and 1972 with the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver and 1977 in gold.
