Kurt Schröder (doctor)

Kurt Schröder (born July 23, 1902 in Duisburg , † September 27, 1979 in Erfurt ) was a German ear, nose and throat doctor . From 1959 to 1967 he was professor and clinic director at the Medical Academy in Erfurt , where he also served as rector from 1963 to 1965.

Schröder grew up in Duisburg and passed his school leaving examination there. After studying medicine from 1920 to 1926 in Kiel , Tübingen and Cologne , he received his doctorate in 1927. Kurt Schröder received his training as an ENT doctor with Wilhelm Lange at the University of Leipzig . In 1932 he established himself as a specialist in ear, nose and throat diseases in Leipzig, where he ran an important and respected practice for 20 years. In 1937 he joined the NSDAP .

In 1952 he moved to the Dresden-Friedrichstadt hospital as chief physician of the ear, nose and throat clinic, which he headed until 1959. During this time he obtained in 1956 at the University of Leipzig under Woldemar Tonndorf (1887-1957) the Habilitation . In 1959 he was appointed director of the ENT Clinic of the Medical Academy Erfurt appointed and in 1961 Professor of the Chair. Schröder worked at this large and modern clinic until his retirement in 1967 and was the rector of the university from 1963 to 1965, succeeding pathologist Harry Güthert . The festivities for the 10th anniversary of the Medical Academy fell during this term of office. Schröder introduced the annual scientific student conferences, and the establishment of the "Zur Engelsburg" student club and the MAE sports center on the Petersberg in Erfurt are not least thanks to his support.

Kurt Schröder was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze, the GDR Medal of Merit , the Hufeland Medal in gold and the title of Senior Medical Officer . On the day of the MAE's tenth anniversary in 1964, he was awarded the plaque “For special services to the Erfurt Medical Academy” .

Schröder had exceptional operational skills. Scientifically, he devoted himself in particular to the histology of the temporal bone , audiometry , noise-related hearing loss and microsurgery of the ear. 50 scientific publications, including two manual contributions, are thanks to his pen.

A high point in Kurt Schröder's life was his participation in the 600th anniversary of the University of Vienna in 1965. Due to the foundation deed of the former Alma mater Erfordiensis from 1379, Schröder was allowed to be at the head of all representatives of universities in the German-speaking area.

Schröder was married and the father of five children.
