He was born the fifth of seven children to the gardener Hermann Krause and his wife Ernestine Krause. After graduating from eight-year school in 1941, he became a young postman before he was drafted into the Wehrmacht through the labor service. After his participation in the Second World War and his American captivity in France until the end of 1947, he learned the profession of a postal worker in Angermünde .

In 1949 he was elected to the Central Postal Union of Brandenburg in the state of Brandenburg . After studying economics at the “Fritz Heckert” trade union college in Bernau in the 1950s, he was employed in the international organization of the GDR trade union from 1960 because of his knowledge of French .

In 1964 he was elected Secretary General of the IVG Public Services within the World Trade Union Federation . One of the most important tasks was building contacts between the individual national and international trade union federations. He had good contacts with the union chairman of the FDGB Herbert Warnke , Georges Frischmann (France), Natan Gussinski (Soviet Union) and the chairman of the ÖTV Heinz Kluncker . He carried out this activity until 1978. In 1975 he was honored with the " Patriotic Order of Merit in Bronze".

Afterwards, he was responsible for the development of the public service staff in the northern districts of the GDR within the FDGB until he left the company prematurely. This departure was justified by personal differences with Harry Tisch .

Krause died at the age of 82.
