Hans Wilken

Hans Wilhelm Friedrich Wilken (born May 6, 1929 in Rostock ; † September 5, 2006 there ) was a German gynecologist .

Life

Hans Wilken was born to Wilhelm Wilken and his wife Elise Wilken, geb. Knoop. He went to school in his native Rostock and passed his Abitur in 1949. From 1949 to 1954 Wilken studied medicine at the University of Rostock and received his doctorate there in 1954 . After his compulsory assistantship at various Rostock clinics and a practical year from 1955 in the health department in the Rostock district, which was usual at this time, he began specialist training at the Rostock University Women's Clinic under the then director Hans Hermann Schmid , which he became a specialist in 1960 for gynecology and obstetrics graduated. In 1958 Helmut Kyank took over the management of the Rostock clinic. On his advice, Wilken dealt with immunological examinations during pregnancy , about which Wilken received his habilitation in 1963 . In 1960 he was appointed senior physician and in 1964 university lecturer. Other areas of work of Wilken were infections in pregnancy and the then current problem of rhesus incompatibility , whereby he was the first in the GDR to carry out the intrauterine blood transfusion of the fetus according to Liley .

In 1971 Hans Wilken moved to Wismar , where he took over the management of the gynecological clinic, became medical director of the Wismar district hospital and was appointed honorary professor by the University of Rostock . In 1976 he began treating diseases of the female breast there , which until then had been in the hands of surgeons .

In 1981 Wilken accepted the position at the University of Rostock as successor to Helmut Kyank and took over the management of the university women's clinic, which he headed for 12 years until his retirement in 1993. Under Wilken, reproductive medicine was established with the birth of the first IVF child in Rostock in 1987. In the mid-eighties, Wilken was one of the first in the GDR to introduce breast-conserving therapy for breast cancer . The introduction of plastic and aesthetic breast surgery was also due to him. After his departure, Reinhold Schwarz was appointed as his successor. Wilken worked for almost two years at the gynecological clinic in Grevesmühlen and was a member of the ethics committee of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Medical Association .

Hans Wilken died in Rostock in 2006 at the age of 77.

Appreciation

Wilken co-founded the Society for Senology in the GDR in 1988 and was its chairman until 1990. From 1982 to 1992 he was the publisher and editor-in-chief of the Zentralblatt für Gynäkologie , representative of the main research area M 30 Pregnancy and Child Development of the Ministry of Higher and Technical Education of the GDR, member of the editorial board of the journal for anesthesiology and resuscitation , member of the scientific advisory board of the journal Annales Chirurgiae et Gynaecologiae Finniae , board member of the Society for Gynecology of the GDR and board member of the Society for Perinatal Medicine of the GDR.
