Helmut Kyank

Helmut Kyank (born January 7, 1916 in Demitz-Thumitz ( Saxony ), † December 14, 1992 in Rostock ) was a German gynecologist. From 1958 to 1981 he was director of the Rostock University Women's Clinic.

Life

Kyank's parents were the Reichsbahn official Max Kyank and his wife Ida Kyank nee. Noack. He passed his Abitur in Leipzig in 1936 and served in the army (Wehrmacht) from 1937 to 1939 . He studied medicine at the University of Leipzig from 1939 and was awarded a Dr. med. PhD . In 1944/45 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht again. After the war he began his further training at the Leipzig University Women's Clinic. In 1950 he became a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics . He completed his habilitation in Leipzig in 1952. and was appointed senior physician and lecturer , later professor. In 1958 he moved to the gynecological clinic at the University of Rostock . In 1969 he came to her chair for gynecology as a full professor . He headed the Rostock clinic until his retirement in 1981. His successor was Hans Wilken . Kyank passed away in 1992 at the age of 75. He was married and had three children.

In the German Democratic Republic , Kyank was one of the most important textbook authors in gynecology and obstetrics alongside Karlheinz Sommer . At the Ministry of Health , he was 1963-1965 chairman of the problem committee for gynecology and obstetrics. From 1975 he sat on the Advisory Board of Annales chirurgiae et gynaecologiae .

In the lecture hall of the Klinikum Südstadt Rostock , a marble plaque commemorates Kyank. Under his bronze head are the lectures given in his honor by leading scientists on major topics in gynecology and reproductive medicine:
