Nico Niedziella (born May 31, 1970 in Wolmirstedt ) is a former German soccer player. Within the GDR football association , he played for 1. FC Magdeburg and FC Sachsen Leipzig in the major league . In the DFB area he was active for SC Fortuna Köln in the 2nd Bundesliga and for Rot-Weiss Essen in the regional league.

Club career

Niedziella started at the company sports club Kali Wolmirstedt in 1978 at the age of eight. As a youth player in 1983 he was delegated to the regional soccer focus 1. FC Magdeburg. In May 1988 Niedziella was used in two league games of the FCM. On the 25th league match day of the 1987/88 season he was used in the 85th minute for midfielder Rolf Döbbelin . A week later, on the last day of the season of this season, he came onto the field in the 70th minute for left winger Dirk Losert .

After the then student did not come to any further premier league appearances for FCM, Niedziella played in the second class league at BSG Motor Schönebeck in the second half of 1988 . The Leipziger could not qualify for all German professional football .

In the summer of 1991 he moved to TSV Havelse in the Oberliga Nord for two seasons . At the beginning of the 1993/94 season, Niedziella became a second division player at Fortuna Cologne. Here he had his most successful time as a football player. He stayed with Fortune until 1999 and, now playing in defense, made 104 appearances and two goals in the 2nd Bundesliga. He had his best season in 1996/97 when he played 31 of the 34 point games. Niedziella played the last 18 point games of his career with the regional division Rot-Weiss Essen in the 1999/2000 season. Then he had to end his career as a competitive athlete due to injury.

Selection bets

He was first called up in February 1986 in the U-16 national team of the GDR, with which he then played eight international matches. In these missions he scored five hits. He took part in the U-16 European Championship in Greece in 1986 , in which the GDR reached fourth place.

Niedziella later made the transition to the junior national team . In this he completed nine international matches and scored four goals. In 1988 he was part of the GDR squad for the U-18 European Championship and won the bronze medal with his team. His achievements in Czechoslovakia were viewed rather critically by the trade journal fuwo : “Failed to meet expectations. Has disadvantages on the international stage in terms of speed, ball protection and tackle strength, despite his 1.88 m often in the header game. ” In August 1988, since already belonging to BSG Motor Schönebeck, Niedziella was revived once for the 1989 World Cup participation Appointed U-20 selection , but was not part of the DFV squad for the tournament in Saudi Arabia in February 1989 .

Niedziella returned to Magdeburg and became sports coordinator in the local Bördelandhalle .
