Reinhold Schwarz (gynecologist)

Reinhold Schwarz (born July 25, 1929 in Stuttgart ; † December 1, 2017 ) was a German gynecologist and director of the Rostock University Women's Clinic .

Live and act

Schwarz was born as the son of Rudolf Schwarz and his wife Frida Schwarz, b. Schaffert, born in 1929. He went to school in Leipzig from 1937 and passed his Abitur there in 1948 . From 1948 to 1953 Schwarz studied medicine at the University of Leipzig , where he received his doctorate in 1953 . He completed his compulsory assistant largely in the surgical department of the Bergmannskrankenhaus Klettwitz in Niederlausitz . In 1955 he began his further training at the University Women's Clinic in Leipzig, which he completed after moving to the University of Rostock in 1959 as a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics . Then Reinhold Schwarz was appointed senior physician . After completing his habilitation in 1963 under Helmut Kyank , he became a lecturer and deputy clinic director in 1964 . In 1972 he completed further specialist training as a specialist in radiology . In 1974, Schwarz was appointed full professor of gynecology and obstetrics and in 1993, as C4 professor and successor to Hans Wilken, took over the directorate of the Rostock University Women's Clinic, which he headed until his retirement in 1997. From 1978 to 1981 he also taught as a visiting professor at the University of Basra ( Iraq ).

After the reunification , Reinhold Schwarz was an initiating founding member of the professional association of gynecologists in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . Along with Martin Link (1934–2005), Dresden , Hans-Joachim Seewald (* 1937), Jena , and Wolfgang Weise (1938–2006), Magdeburg , he was one of the first to deal with the development of the association's structures in the the new federal states . In 1989, Schwarz was freely elected as the first president of the Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics of the GDR. In this role he played a key role in the merger of the former regional society for gynecology and obstetrics in the three northern districts of Rostock , Schwerin and Neubrandenburg with the Northwest German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics to form today's North German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics. This is a regional company of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics .

Appreciation

Reinhold Schwarz had been a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina since 1983 . From 1988 to 1993 he was a scientific member of the Society of European Oncology and from 1993 to 1996 he was Deputy Medical Director of the Medical Faculty of Rostock.
