Bruno Lunenfeld
Bruno Lunenfeld (born February 17, 1927 in Vienna ) is an Austrian- Israeli doctor and endocrinologist .
Life
Lunenfeld, who grew up in Vienna, received his school education after fleeing Austria in 1937 in Great Britain , where he attended the pre-cadet school in Seafield Park, England in 1938, and in Israel after he came to Haifa via Paris and Marseille in 1940 . He studied chemistry in Israel. In 1945 he was suspected of having been involved in terrorist acts against the British. In the same year he began to study medicine in Geneva . He completed his medical studies at the University of Geneva and received his doctorate there in 1954. He then returned to Israel and, after an assistantship at Tel Hashomer Hospital in Ramat Gan, worked at the Weizmann Institute in Rechovot from 1957 to 1961 . From 1961 to 1992 he was head of the Endocrine Research and Development Unit at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center and from 1967 to his retirement in 1995 he was Professor of Endocrinology and Director of the Institute for Endocrinology at Bar Ilan University in Ramat Gan. He currently heads the 'International Fertility Institute' in Ra'anana .
Medical importance
Lunenfeld is considered a pioneer in gynecological endocrinology and fertility treatment . He was significantly involved in the extraction, purification and clinical application of human menopausal gonadotropins (hMG), which are of great importance in the treatment of patients who wish to have children. Other scientific focal points of his work are the treatment of menopausal symptoms in women and research into endocrine changes in older men. He has published around 300 scientific articles.
Honors
Lunenfeld is an honorary member of various international specialist societies, such as the German and Italian Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics, the German Society for Gynecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology , Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists . He was honored with the Jacob Henle Medal and the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class (1995) for his achievements .
