Franz Franik

Franz Franik (born October 2, 1907 in Lona-Lany , Tost-Gleiwitz district , † October 20, 1975 ) was a German miner and namesake of an activist movement in the GDR .

Life

After attending primary school, Franz Franik initially worked in agriculture. Since 1925 he worked in the coal mining industry , first in Hindenburg in Upper Silesia and from 1928 in the Zwickau coal field . After serving in the Wehrmacht from 1943 to 1945 and briefly as a prisoner of war, Franik returned to Germany at the end of 1945. He worked again in coal mining, as a brigadier in the Karl Marx factory in Zwickau . There he initiated an innovator movement in 1952 with the aim of fulfilling the annual plans ahead of time ("Franik Movement").

Franik has been honored with high state awards. In 1952 he became an Honored Miner of the GDR . In the same year, he and Horst Radecker received the GDR National Prize,  1st class, for science and technology. In 1954 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold. He was an honorary citizen of Zwickau.

Franik died on October 20, 1975.
