Horst Beseler

Horst Beseler (born May 29, 1925 in Berlin ) is a German writer .

Life

Horst Beseler is the son of a Reichsbahn employee. He attended elementary school and a high school. In 1944 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht . He became an American prisoner of war . From 1945 to 1947 he worked as a technician and telephone operator in a film copy plant of the Soviet occupation forces in Berlin-Johannisthal . From 1947 to 1952 he worked as a journalist for the newspapersJunge Welt ” and “ Neues Deutschland ”. Since 1952 he has lived as a freelance writer in Hinzenhagen near Güstrow .

Horst Beseler is the author of novels , short stories , columnist works and scripts . He wrote a number of books for children and teenagers; his novel Käuzchenkuhle from 1965 was one of the most successful youth books in GDR literature .

Horst Beseler was a member of the GDR Writers' Association ; from 1973 he was chairman in the Schwerin district and from 1978 member of the executive committee of the general association. He received u. a. The following awards: 1957 the Theodor Fontane Prize of the Potsdam district , 1966 the Erich Weinert Medal , 1973 the Fritz Reuter Prize and 1978 the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze. In 1982 he received the National Prize of the GDR, 2nd class for art and literature.

Horst Beseler lives near Güstrow and was married to the photographer Edith Rimkus-Beseler (1926–2016) since 1952 .
