Kurt Blecha (born February 25, 1923 in Aussig , ČSR ; † March 1, 2013 in Berlin ) was an SED functionary and head of the press office at the chairman of the GDR's Council of Ministers .

Life

Blecha joined the NSDAP in 1941 and was drafted into military service. He was taken prisoner by the Soviets in 1943 , attended Antifa schools in Gorki and Krasnogorsk and was active in the National Committee for Free Germany .

In 1945 he returned to Germany, joined the SED in 1946 and worked for the SED organ Schweriner Volkszeitung until 1952 . From 1953 to 1989 he was on the board of the GDR Journalists' Association (VDJ). From 1953 to 1958 he was deputy head, then as successor to Fritz Beyling from March 31, 1958 to November 1989 head of the press office at the chairman of the GDR's Council of Ministers . This press office was responsible for the accreditation of foreign journalists in the GDR and was also a censorship authority that monitored GDR print media that were not directly subordinate to the SED. In addition, from 1958 to 1989 Blecha was a member of the agitation commission at the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED and from 1959 to 1989 a member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Association of Journalists of the GDR. In January 1990, Blecha, Joachim Herrmann , Heinz Geggel , Dieter Langguth and Eberhard Fensch were excluded from the professional association by the VDJ congress as those responsible for media abuse in the past.

Blecha was married to the former deputy mayor of East Berlin , Johanna Blecha . His step-daughter Sigrid was the second wife of GDR foreign exchange procurer Alexander Schalck-Golodkowski .
