Hans-Joachim Böhme (born April 25, 1931 in Leipzig ; † May 11, 1995 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( SED ). For many years he was Minister for Higher and Technical Education in the GDR .

Life

The son of a worker studied education at the University of Leipzig from 1950 to 1953 . In 1952 he joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). From 1953 to 1955 he worked as a teacher and assistant at the Karl Marx University (KMU) Leipzig. From 1955 to 1959 he acted as secretary and from 1959 to 1966 as 1st secretary of the SED district leadership of the KMU Leipzig. From 1966 to 1968 he was head of the student department at the GDR embassy in Moscow .

From 1968 to 1970 he was State Secretary and 1st Deputy Minister, and from September 16, 1970 to November 1989, he was Minister for Higher Education and Technical Education, succeeding Ernst-Joachim Gießmann . At the 8th party congress of the SED in June 1971 he was elected as a candidate and at the 10th session of the Central Committee on October 2, 1973 as a member of the Central Committee of the SED . In November / December 1989 he resigned from his state and party functions. After the reunification in the GDR he was unemployed and in 1990 worked for the institute for higher education and technical schools.

In 1970 Böhme became professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin and in 1981 an honorary doctorate (Dr. hc) from the University of Leningrad .
