Hans Lutter (born April 29, 1928 in Magdeburg ; † March 1, 2009 ) was a German Marxist philosopher in the GDR and taught at the Güstrow University of Education .

biography

Hans Lutter's professional and political development can be summarized as follows: working-class child - bricklayer - new teacher - school director - school board - teacher trainer - diploma (Berlin 1960) - doctorate (Jena 1966) - habilitation (Potsdam 1971) - lecturer - professor.

Following a family tradition, he joined the SPD as a bricklayer in 1945 and became a member of the SED through the compulsory union of the SPD and KPD , of which he remained a member even after the name was changed to PDS . He only resigned in 2006.

After completing his habilitation in 1971 at the Potsdam University of Education , he became the founding rector of the Güstrow University of Education in 1972 , which he headed until 1988 and which was largely shaped by his Marxist and atheist worldview. Until his release in 1990 he taught there in the Marxism-Leninism section . In Güstrow he founded a research group on Marxist-Leninist religious studies that dealt with Protestantism in the GDR. With similar interests, Olof Klohr conducted research in Wustrow at the seafaring school parallel to Catholicism in the GDR. The PH Güstrow was closed in 1991.

From 1971 to 1990 Lutter was a member of the Schwerin District Assembly and for ten years was chairman of the permanent education commission. After the fall of the Wall he was Deputy Federal Chairman of the German Freethinkers Association from 1994 to 2000 .

Since 1963 he was active in the field of so-called "Scientific Atheism". In 1988 he and his research collective rejected this term as unscientific, but without giving up his work in the field of atheism and Marxist religious studies .

In the course of the turning point and the peaceful revolution , he was given early retirement in May 1990 and his chair was closed.

In December 1990 he founded the magazine "Berliner Dialog-Hefte", later called "Neue Dialog-Hefte", as the responsible editor. In 1998 an honorary colloquium took place in Berlin on the occasion of his 70th birthday. In 2004, for reasons of age, he finished the magazine with issue 60.
