Frank Uekötter

Frank Uekötter (born July 15, 1970 in Münster ) is a German historian of the environment , technology , science and agriculture .

Life

Frank Uekötter put 1990 on school Laurentianum in Warendorf his High School and studied from 1990 to 1997: History, Social Studies and Political Science at the Universities of Freiburg , Bielefeld and at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore . He received his doctorate from Bielefeld University in 2001. His dissertation was entitled From the smoke plague to the ecological revolution. A History of Air Pollution in Germany and the United States, 1880–1970 . For this he received the dissertation award of the Faculty of History and Philosophy in 2002. As a research assistant, he worked from 2003 to 2006 at the Faculty of History at Bielefeld University, where he carried out a research project on the priority program “Science, Politics and Society. Germany in an International Context in the Late 19th and 20th Centuries ”of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft .

From 2006 Uekötter was a Dilthey Fellow at the Deutsches Museum in Munich . In 2009 , Uekötter completed his habilitation in Bielefeld with a study entitled “The truth is in the field. A history of knowledge in German agriculture ”. From 2008 to 2011 Uekötter was Deputy Director of the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich and then an LMU Fellow. In the winter semester 2009/10 and in the summer semester 2012 Uekötter held substitute professorships at the LMU Munich.

Since 2013 he has been teaching at Birmingham University .
