Reinhold Kaiser

Reinhold Kaiser (born January 5, 1943 in Wuppertal ) is a German historian of medieval history .

Reinhold Kaiser studied Romance studies and history at the universities of Cologne , Dijon , Poitiers and Bonn from 1962 to 1968 . In 1971 he received his doctorate with Eugen Ewig in Bonn with the work Civitas and Diocese Soissons in Roman and Merovingian times . From 1968 to 1974 Kaiser was a lecturer at the University of Paris X and as an assistant in medieval history at the University of Lille III . In 1978 he received his habilitation with a thesis on episcopal rule between kingship and prince power . Kaiser held a professorship at the University of Essen from 1981 to 1990 . From 1990 he taught early medieval history at the University of Zurich as a professor until his retirement in 2006 , and from 1997 as a full professor. In 2011 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Nancy 2.
