Ottfried Dascher

Ottfried Dascher (born December 7, 1936 in Ober-Lais ) is a German historian and archivist . From 1992 to 2001 he headed the main state archive in Düsseldorf .

Life

Ottfried Dascher studied history, German and economics at the Universities of Marburg and Berlin . After completing his doctorate, he completed the archival preparatory service at the Marburg Archive School from 1965 to 1967 . He initially worked as an archive assessor for three years at the Marburg State Archives before moving to Dortmund as director of the Westphalian Economic Archives in 1970 . In 1992 he took over the management of the North Rhine-Westphalian Main State Archives in Düsseldorf. He has been retired since 2001.

Dascher was a board member of the Association of German Archivists (VdA), chairman of the business archives section in the VdA (1977–1985), founding member and chairman of the Committee on Business Archives at the International Council on Archives (1975–1988). Dascher has been a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia since 1975 and a scientific member of the Historical Commission for Hesse since 1971 . He is the author and editor of numerous scientific publications.
