Dietmar Bartz (born April 1, 1957 in Duisburg ) is a German journalist .

Bartz grew up in Ratingen and completed his training in 1979 at the main state archive in Düsseldorf and at the archive school in Marburg with a career examination for senior archive service (Dipl.- Archivist (FH)). From 1980 he studied art history , history and German at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the University of Hamburg . After dropping out of his studies, he completed a traineeship at taz in Bremen .

From 1988 to 1991 he was the business editor at taz in Berlin and then until 1994 head of the business department at Wochenpost in Berlin. For four years he worked as a freelance business journalist in Prešov ( Slovakia ). This was followed by further activities in Germany, from 1998 to 2001 as head of the service at mare in Hamburg and until 2006 as opinion editor at taz. From 2002 to 2005 he was also part of the editorial team of the German edition of Le Monde Diplomatique . From 2007 to 2009 he was head of duty at the German edition of Vanity Fair . He held the same position in 2012 for the German edition of Interview . He also works as a project manager and media consultant.

With communication designer Ellen Stockmar, he has been running the “Atlas Manufaktur” project for the production of orientation media (including meat atlas) since 2012 .

In the course of his reporting on the collapse of the Cologne city archive , Bartz coined the term Cologne flakes .
