Jürgen Kloosterhuis

Jürgen Kloosterhuis (born March 4, 1950 in Coburg ) is a German archivist and historian . From 1996 to 2017 he was director of the Secret State Archives of Prussian Cultural Heritage .

Life

Jürgen Kloosterhuis studied history , German , philosophy and political science at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg and the University of Vienna . During his studies he became a member of the Landsmannschaften Neoborussia Halle zu Freiburg, Prussia Danzig and Cimbria Vienna, whose past he has described in many publications.

From 1979 to 1980 he completed his preparatory service as a trainee lawyer for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia at the Detmold State Archives and at the Marburg Archive School . In 1981 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . He began his archival career in 1980 at the Münster State Archives . He worked there for a total of 16 years. In 1996 he became director of the Secret State Archives of Prussian Cultural Heritage in Berlin . He retired in July 2017.

Kloosterhuis is a member of numerous professional associations and committees, since 2004 honorary professor at the Free University of Berlin for modern history and historical auxiliary sciences and author of numerous scientific publications.
