Kurt Dülfer

Kurt Dülfer (born June 10, 1908 in Elberfeld , † September 3, 1973 in Marburg ) was a German historian and archivist . From 1963 to 1973 he was head of the State Archives and the Marburg Archive School .

Life

After graduating from the Realgymnasium in Elberfeld , Dülfer studied history in Würzburg , Munich and Marburg from 1926 to 1933 . After completing his doctorate at the University of Marburg, he completed the Prussian archivist training at the Institute for Archival Science in Berlin-Dahlem in 1933/34 and began his career in 1935 at the Secret State Archives in Berlin as a so-called archive assistant. In 1941 he was awarded the title of State Archives Councilor. Before that he had worked from 1937 to 1939 as the deputy head of the Leibniz edition at the Prussian Academy of Sciences and was released from his archival activities for this purpose. From 1941 to 1944 Dülfer was seconded to the German Cultural Property Commission for the Baltic States in Riga and was temporarily a member of the Reichsleiter Rosenberg (ERR) staff .

After the war, Dülfer found a job in 1946 at the Hessian State Archives in Marburg , which he took over in 1963. The management of the archive school in Marburg was connected with this office . He held both of these functions until he retired in 1973.

Since it was founded (1949), Dülfer has been a lecturer at the Marburg Archive School, lecturer for archives and records at the University of Marburg (since 1953), honorary professor at the University of Gießen (since 1963), member of the Historical Commission for Silesia and President of Johann Gottfried Herder Research Council in Marburg (since 1972).
