Michael Hollmann (born August 25, 1961 in Aachen ) is a German historian and archivist . He has been President of the Federal Archives since May 2011 .

Life

Hollmann graduated from the Eichendorff-Gymnasium in Koblenz in 1979 . From 1979 to 1984 he studied history, German and pedagogy at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . After receiving his doctorate in Mainz (1988), he completed the archival preparatory service at the Marburg Archive School as a trainee lawyer at the Federal Archives from 1989 to 1991 .

After completing his training in archiving, Hollmann headed several units in the departments “Specialized Fundamental Matters”, “German Reich” and “Federal Republic of Germany” and also played a key role in the further development of information technology at the Federal Archives. Most recently, he was head of the “Federal Republic of Germany” department and represented the Federal Archives in various national and international committees. Hollmann is also the spokesman for the Alliance for Written Cultural Assets .

In 2019, Hollmann was accepted as a Chevalier in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres together with the Vice President of the Federal Archives, Andrea Hänger .
