Rainer Polley

Rainer Polley (born May 22, 1949 in Mölln ) is a German archivist and lawyer . From 1994 to 2014 he was deputy director of the Marburg Archive School .

Life

Rainer Polley studied law and history at the University of Kiel from 1967 to 1971 . He passed both state law exams and was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD with Hans Hattenhauer . 1979 followed the habilitation (Dr. iur. Habil.) For the subject German legal history . From 1977 he attended the archive school in Marburg as an archive trainee, from which he graduated in 1979 with the archival state examination. He was then entrusted as an assessor at the Hessian State Archive in Marburg with teaching tasks at the Marburg Archive School, among other things. From 1982 he headed the “Institute for Archival Science” until he was appointed director of studies and deputy director in 1994 as part of a restructuring of the archive school. 2002–2003 and 2009–2010 he was acting head of the archive school in Marburg. He retired at the end of July 2014.

Polley has been a member of the main committee since 1983 and a board member of the Historical Commission for Hesse since 2014 . From 1979 to 1986 he was an adjunct professor at the University of Kiel. Since 1997 he has been a lecturer for archival source studies at the Institute for the History of Pharmacy at the Philipps University of Marburg . He is a recognized expert in the field of archive law .
