Joseph Guldimann

Joseph Guldimann SJ (born April 4, 1656 in Solothurn ; † May 12, 1736 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a Jesuit priest, university professor and architect.

Joseph Guldimann took effect on 30 September 1674 to Landsberg am Lech in the Jesuit order one, 1687, he was in Augsburg for priests ordained. He taught as a professor of mathematics from 1698 to 1701 in Innsbruck and from 1701 to 1702 in Mindelheim , then until 1710 scholastic theology in Lucerne . From 1706 to 1707 he was a minister in Solothurn . From 1716 he also took over this office in Eichstätt , from 1719 to 1720 he was minister and vice-rector in Mindelheim. He also stayed in Konstanz, Hall, Ellwangen and Rottenburg. In addition to his teaching activities, Joseph Guldimann also worked as an architect and appeared for the first time at the church in Solothurn from 1706 to 1707, where he planned the interior fittings. According to his plans, the Institute of the English Misses, the so-called Maria Ward Institute, was built in Mindelheim from 1715 to 1720. The monastery buildings of the Jesuit college in Mindelheim also go back to him. He was in charge of the construction work on the Jesuit Church of the Annunciation, including the reconstruction of the nave, from 1721 to 1722. In Ellwangen, he took over the work from Jakob Amrhein and completed the church there, which received a tail gable similar to the one he had previously constructed in Mindelheim. The towers behind the facade gable are also likely to come from his work as an architect. In 1726 he submitted plans for a new grammar school in Rottweil. Only a year later he was planning the restoration of the college church , which had been destroyed after the choir vault collapsed. The single-nave choir with the three-aisled nave, decorated with high pillars and pilasters on the walls, goes back to him. In Freiburg im Breisgau, his last place of residence, where he also died in 1736, he planned a country house for the college there.
