Johann Adolph Krohn (* 1674 in Lübeck ; † August 29, 1750 there ) was a lawyer and mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Johann Adolph Krohn was the son of the Lübeck merchant Johann Krohn († 1701). From 1693 he studied law at the Universities of Rostock and Leipzig . In 1698 in Rostock, after a disputation on Von Beweiß der Schuldt with trade books, he was promoted to Dr. doctorate in law. After a study trip to the Imperial Court of Justice in Wetzlar and the Netherlands , he became in 1706 Syndicus of the City Council of Rostock . In 1716 he gave up his office and moved to Lübeck, where he was elected to the city council in 1731 and there was appointed one of the four mayors in 1744 . During his term of office as councilor, the self-completion of the Lübeck council, forced by the citizens, fell in 1739 .

Since April 28, 1700 he was married to Anna Sophie, b. Stindten. Their golden wedding anniversary was celebrated in 1750; It was the first time that an incumbent mayor in Lübeck could celebrate his jubilee wedding . The later senior Georg Hermann Richerz (1716–1767) held the festive service, and Cantor Caspar Ruetz created two cantatas for the occasion. Of the couple's children, Hermann Georg Krohn was the syndic of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck from 1741–52, and the grandson Hermann Diedrich Krohn also became Lübeck's mayor in 1786. The daughter Margaretha Catharina married the mayor Georg Wilhelm Detharding .

Since 1744 he was involved in a lengthy civil lawsuit with Anna Maria von Spilcker, geb. Gloxin, a daughter of Anton Heinrich Gloxin , involved. It was about half of the legacy of Catharina Margaretha Haeck, the wife of Lübeck Councilor Dr. who was still alive at the time of the dispute and who died without children or will. Daniel Haecks . Krohn was her uncle, Spilcker her (half) aunt, both of whom were her closest blood relatives. Krohn claimed the share of relatives for himself and justified this with the privilege of full birth . The inheritance dispute dragged on for years and went up to the Reich Chamber of Commerce, which, after the deaths of both in 1756, pronounced a judgment in favor of Spilcker (or their heirs). During the trial, Krohn had his point of view underpinned by a series of treatises by his son Hermann Georg Krohn on Luebian inheritance law, the primacy of full birth and Luebian particular law over Roman law . As a result of this and the counter-writings of the Celle Higher Appeal Court Judge Johann Christian Bacmeister (1703–1766), son of the Celle office director Johann Christian Bacmeister , the process achieved a literary quality that far surpassed the occasion and made it an often-cited precedent until the 19th century made. Because of the very good source situation and the exemplary nature of this case, Peter Oestmann made the complete file of the Reich Chamber of Commerce available in 2009 as part of a historical-critical edition.
